Programs & Education
A Commitment to Education
We offer education and public programs based on our mission to foster appreciation, stewardship, and understanding of the Hanford Reach National Monument and the larger Columbia Basin through education and interpretation.
K-12 Education Programs
The REACH serves as a regional center for learning. It provides a place that enriches the lives of students of all ages and help them understand our natural and cultural history. The REACH serves as a catalyst for students' interest in math, science, history, and technology and provides opportunities for lifelong learning.
Educators believe The REACH's mission, themes, and exhibits present an ideal opportunity to develop lessons on concepts that are difficult to teach, particularly related to math and science. They see the interpretive center as engagin students in learing opportunities that cannot be found anywhere else in the area.
Public Programs
The REACH offers a variety of public programs throughout the year such as:
- Interpretive talks
- Public lectures presented by local experts in their fields
- Offsite tours (Hanford Reach, Snake River, Ice Age Floods, B Reactor, Alphabet Homes)
- Field programs (identifying wildflowers, birds, rocks)
- Live animal shows (small birds, small mammals)
- Family days
